Internal Medicine is the medical specialization that has the object of “the overall vision of the sick person”. The internist is, in fact, the specialist that consider patient as a unique and complex entity, not fragmented in its individual organs and apparatus. This expertise, based on a broad medical culture, allows him to deal with complex pathological events, also characterized by the presence of multiple pathologies, coordinating the most suitable intervention of other specialists (cardiologist, pneumologist, gastroenterologist, etc.). “Internist” patients are usually adults and often elderly with both acute and chronic conditions at high risk of complications.
Areas of interest: prevention, diagnosis and treatment of both acute and chronic non-surgical pathologies.
